F.A.Q.

When does it start on Friday?
You are welcome from 15.00 hrs at Holiday Inn in Leiden. We provide a dinner at 17:00 hrs. The first sessions begin promptly at 18.10.

Does my entire chorus have to participate?
No, you can take part as an individual singer, but obviously your whole chorus is welcome!

Does my quartet have to be complete to be allowed to participate?
Only complete quartets can receive a quartet coaching. If the quartet is not complete, you can take part in one of the other streams.

Is there time for an afterglow?
What is a barbershop event without an afterglow? On Friday and Saturday there is enough time and space for an afterglow. Drinks can be purchased at the bar. It is not allowed in the bars or afterglow areas to bring your own drinks. We will work with tokens.

How do I know if my choices for the workshops will be honored?
After July 1, when we have all registrations, we will assign everyone to their choice of workshops/stream. Of course we will try to do this according to your preferences. If we differ from them, we will contact you. Without further notice, you can assume that we honor your choices.

How many coaching sessions are available for a quartet?
We can take 20 quartets. As you can see on the schedule quartet coachings take place simultaneously with chorus rehearsals in which quartets can not participate. Each quartet gets 2 quartet coachings of one hour. Besides the quartet coachings there are a number of workshops that focus on quartets. Moreover, the quartet members can choose individually from the other workshops on offer. We expect of the quartets to indicate in advance a first preference by whom they want to be coached. Please do this using the registration form before June 4th. Thereafter, the EC will assign each quartet to two coaches. Once the quartets have been told around June 6 when they will be coached and by whom, the quartet members can make choose other workshops.

How and when do I pay?
The weekend costs € 195.00. Preferably you’ll pay that amount at the same time that you send your registration, because it is more likely then that you will be granted your choices for the workshops and the room.
The payment details are in the automatic confirmation email you receive after signing up. Your payment should be in the Holland Harmony account no later than July 1, 2016. Receipt of payment will make your registration definite. We expect a lot of registrations and perhaps even more than we can place. If we reach full capacity we will honor the registrations in order of payment.

What is included in the 195 euros?
You’ll have an entire weekend filled with barbershop education including full board in a modern hotel. You’ll get 14 hours of workshops / coaching / vocal technique taught by some pretty awesome coaches. On Friday evening a quartet competition and a show on Saturday and one on Sunday.

Two nights, two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners, coffee and tea during the breaks are also included.

We have 15 renowned barbershop coaches in the house, teaching numerous workshops next to coaching quartets, and the price-quality ratio is excellent.
In the afterglow you might have your moment of glory in "Sing with the Champs".

Can I get a discount?
Yes, that's possible! Here’s what you can do. Each room has two beds of 1.40 to 2.00 meters. It’s often one person per bed, but if you want to share a bed with a friend you’ll get a discount of 20 euros per person. You will then only pay only € 175 instead of € 195. If you are a quartet in one room, you can earn as much as 80 euros between the four of you!

On the registration form you’ll indicate whether or not you wish to share a bed and if yes, with whom. Make sure the other person is aware of this!

Should I bring sheets, towels and soap?
No, it’s all already there.

I'd like a single room, is that possible?
We expect such a large number of registrations that we need all the rooms and all the beds. Therefore, it is not possible yet to get a single room. Depending on the bookings we might have more possibilities later.

Can our quartet participate in the competition on Friday night even if we do take part in the whole weekend?
No, that will not be possible. The quartet competition is part of the learning process during the entire weekend.

What exactly is the procedure for the quartet competition?
The competition on Friday evening will follow the official BHS rules, the same rules that we follow during our convention

This means i.a.

  • the quartet sings two contestable barbershop songs.
  • the songs must be legalized. Take proof of registration with you.
  • the songs and the order in which they are sung must be sent in an email to the Chairman of Judges (CoJ): Madelon Dingemanse-Droppert.
    Please send this by September 1 through ec@hollandharmony.nl
    Include the composer and the arranger for each song.
  • The songs will be judged by the following official BHS judges
        Kyle Kitzmiller - music
        Gary Plaag - presentation
        Brandon Guyton - singing
  • The order of appearance will be determined a few weeks before the competition by draw.

Can I sing in a show?
Yes you certainly can. On Saturday night we will have an Open Stage and you can sing whatever you like and with whom you like. You can sign up for the on Saturday morning at the information desk.

And for those who love to sing: on Friday and Saturday there will a unique opportunity to sing with the Buzz and Crossroads. If you want the "Sing with the Champs" -dream to happen, register for this in good time after the opening of the HaCo!

I signed up for a particular workshop, but I would rather ..... is that still possible?
Until July 1 you can change your mind. Fill in the registration form again and put in the comments that it is a change.

Can I cancel?
You can cancel until July 1, 2016 if you have not yet paid. If you have already paid, cancellation is not possible anymore. Note: your payment needs to be in the HH bank account to finalize your registration. Holland Harmony will not refund any payments not before the weekend and not after the weekend. If necessary, you need to take out cancellation insurance.

Can we as a chorus / quartet us register together?
No. Because each member of a chorus / quartet can make a different choice for the workshops, so everyone will need to sign up individually and must complete the form using the registration link.

I have filled out the registration and I have sent it, but I have not received a confirmation.
Perhaps you forgot to press "submit" after filling out the registration. When you do press “submit” you will immediately receive a confirmation page.
If you forgot to fill in a required field, you will automatically come back to the registration form, where it will show you the field in red that you still need to fill out.
The registration has only been successfully submitted if you have received a confirmation email within a few minutes. Did you not get that, please check your spam folder. Is the confirmation not there either, then you most likely have entered an incorrect email address, and you’ll have to fill out the form again.

Will the main language be English during the weekend?
Yes, as almost all coaches are non-Dutch and as there will also be a number of international participants. Only the workshops that Cees Wiegel teach are in Dutch. And maybe one or two that Sander Gieling will teach.

This year the HaCo-team consists of: Madelon Dingemanse, Eric Ideler, Nicky Schuurman,  Nelleke Dorrestijn assisted by several others.
